Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down eight more cents from last week, the first time prices have been below $2.50 since mid-April, according to AAA Northeast.
AAA’s August 24th survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.47 per gallon, down eight cents from last week. Prices locally are 24 cents lower than a month ago. The current price is 13 cents less than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.60. A year ago at this time Rhode Island’s average price was $1.05 higher at $3.52. On the GOP side, Don Botts offered his take -- not only from the city council meeting -- but voiced his concerns after reading the investigative report. He expressed serious misgivings about the actions taken in the report and looks to probe even deeper into the situation with the help of the City Council.

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that Kimberly Shaw, age 41, with a last known address of 60 Olive Street, Pawtucket, pleaded nolo contendere before Superior Court Justice Kristin E. Rodgers on Tuesday to four counts of first degree child molestation.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Shaw was sentenced to a total of 40 years, with 18 to serve and the remainder suspended with probation. In addition, Shaw is ordered to have no contact with the two victims, ordered to undergo sex offender counseling, and must comply with sex offender registration and notification statutes. Shaw was also ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16. Rhode Island, along with 48 other states, has reached a $71 million settlement with Amgen Inc. to resolve allegations that Amgen unlawfully promoted biologic medications Aranesp and Enbrel.
Rhode Island will receive approximately $760,000 as a result of this settlement. Aranesp is used to treat certain types of anemia by stimulating bone marrow to produce red blood cells. Enbrel is used to treat a number of conditions, including plaque psoriasis. |
