Citizens from across the state spoke-out vehemently in opposition to the proposed RhodeMapRI plan at a public comment hearing last evening in North Kingstown. Validating concerns expressed in the Center's written response letter, citizen after citizen, from Woonsocket to Westerly, passionately expressed their opposition to the little-known RhodeMapRI plan, developed by the Chafee administration's Division of Planning.
A new public opinion survey by Brown University’s A. Alfred Taubman Center for Public Policy and American Institutions finds that Republican Allan Fung and Democrat Gina Raimondo are effectively tied in the governor’s race, and Democrat Peter Kilmartin leads Republican Dawson Hodgson by 13 points in the race for attorney general.
The poll surveyed a random sample of 500 registered Rhode Island voters who are likely to vote or had already voted (3.2 percent of the sample) in the statewide races. This poll was conducted Oct. 25-26, 2014 and has an overall margin of error of 4.4 percent. In response to the most recent mailed letter threat to several Rhode Island school districts, Rep. Robert E. Craven (D-Dist. 32, North Kingstown) said he plans to prefile legislation for the 2015 General Assembly session to address threats of harm to schools and school children.
For the second time in about a month, schools in Cranston, Johnston and Warwick last week received a letter threatening harm against school children in those communities. State Police and U.S. Postal Service officials continue to investigate, searching for the anonymous letter writer. Calling it the most "dangerous public policy agenda ever proposed for the Ocean State," the RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity will submit a written response letter, opposing the little-known RhodeMapRI plan, to the state of Rhode Island and its Division of Planning.
