As the holiday season quickly approaches, Black Friday and Cyber Monday – traditionally two of the busiest shopping days of the year – are right around the corner. Whether you’re lining up outside a store or logging on to your computer to find the best deals, Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin is offering important tips that even Scrooge would approve.
Christian “Chay” Rosado (age 27), of Woonsocket, was sentenced yesterday to 35 years with 20 years to serve and the remainder suspended with probation, for the March 2013 Fairmount Bridge shooting that injured Ikey Wilson. Rosado was found guilty in September by a Providence County Superior Court jury of two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon after a weeklong trial before Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause.

Our RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity, URI Economics Professor Len Lardaro, the RI Public Expenditure Council, Mayor Allan Fung, and many other organizations have been critical of the proposed RhodeMap RI economic development plan for its fundamental lack of basic economics; that despite some worthwhile goals, there is no specific road-map offered to attain those goals. With the credibility of RhodeMap RI already in question as a building-block plan for the Rhode Island economy, upon closer inspection, it appears that RhodeMap RI may actually contain recommendations that would be destructive to family budgets, economic growth, and job creation. A 2014 seat belt study released by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) shows 87 percent of local drivers are wearing their seat belts, the highest number ever recorded in Rhode Island. The state now ranks first in New England, with statewide usage increasing more than 15 percentage points since 2008.
"We are happy to see that, more and more, people are getting the message that buckling up saves lives," RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis said. "We look forward to continuing to work with our partners to push that number even higher." Daniel Lane (age 47), of Woonsocket, has pled nolo contendere before Superior Court Magistrate Patrick T. Burke to one count of first degree child molestation and one count of first degree sexual assault. Under the terms of the plea agreement, which was reached with the approval of the victim, Lane was sentenced to 60 years with 22 years to serve and the remainder suspended with probation. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim, undergo sex offender counseling and comply with sex offender registration and notification as mandated by statute.
