The RI Department of Labor and Training announced Thursday that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November 2015 dropped to 5.2 percent, down one-tenth of a percentage point from the October 2015 rate of 5.3 percent.
Over the year, the unemployment rate is down one and seven-tenths percentage points from the November 2014 rate. This is the lowest unemployment rate since July 2007. The U.S. unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in November 2015, unchanged from the previous month and down eight-tenths of a percentage point over the year. The number of unemployed RI residents—those residents classified as available for and actively seeking employment— was 28,700, down 700 from the October figure of 29,400. This represents the lowest unemployment level since June 2007. Over the year, the number of unemployed dropped by 9,200. A total of 8,093 individuals collected Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits in November 2015, down from 10,127 a year ago. He breaks into our homes in the middle of the night. He eats our food, drinks our milk, he hangs out in malls and tries to lure children his way, and is rumored to run a sweatshop run on slave labor. He even operates under several aliases -- Kris Kringle: a/k/a Father Christmas; a/k/a Saint Nick a/k/a Santa Claus will be terrorizing Christians around the world in just over a week.
But who exactly is this Kringle character? We allow this foreigner (is he Canadian? North Polian?) into our airspace with a mysterious sack of unknown and un-inspected items. And somehow he successfully breaks and enters into our homes, and has yet to be foiled by a "good guy with a gun." What Gives? Find out in this week's episode of the Tom Stewart Project (below)
The Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) and J. Goodison Company announced a major expansion today for the full-service marine company’s operations at Quonset Business Park.
J. Goodison’s expansion will include an $8 million investment by the company, including the addition of an 820-metric-ton mobile boat hoist into a new ship repair facility on roughly six acres along Zarbo Ave. Once delivered in the spring of 2016, the “Marine Travelift 820 C” will be the largest lift in the Northeast. “This development is another sign that Rhode Island is making a comeback,” said Governor Gina Raimondo. “The federal and QDC resources resulting in J. Goodison’s investments show that our state can help companies succeed here and bring more jobs to the Ocean State. More and more businesses are realizing that they can make it in Rhode Island.” For the second time in less than four years, the American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island has filed a federal lawsuit over a Cranston Police Department policy of refusing to return firearms seized without a warrant from residents who are neither charged with a crime nor found to pose a danger to themselves or others. Today’s suit, on behalf of resident Edward Caniglia, argues the Cranston Police Department violated his right to due process and his right to keep and bear arms by retaining his firearms without just cause after seizing them without a warrant.
Tom Stewart doesn't have a lot to give, so when he does, he wants to make sure that his money is put to good use.
Unfortunately, what he finds is that with many charities, most of the money goes to executive salaries, operating costs, and oddly litigation to protect their "brands." So, how can you be sure that you are giving to a cause that will actually help people? Watch this week's episode of The Tom Stewart Project to find out! |
