In a recent episode of The Bartholomewtown Podcast, United States Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D, RI) laid out strategies which he believes Senate Democrats - and Republicans - may utilize to contain some of the extreme elements of The Trump Doctrine. During our wide-ranging conversation, Senator Whitehouse, who emerged as an early, frequent and vocal opponent of the President, suggested a blend of legislative mechanics and moral gut-checks on Senate Republicans could allow the minority Democrats to significantly maneuver the chamber’s agenda. It’s December, which means it’s college football bowl season; a time where the nation’s best meet on the gridiron and go head to head for everything from a national championship to a trophy presented by Cheez-Itz. It’s also a time to visit the local sports book and make some extra money during the holiday season, but to make sure you place the proper wager, I have broken down every game with the reasons why you should tune in to every bowl match-up, as well as how to play the spread. So good luck, happy holidays and merry winnings!

T’was the Sunday before Christmas and throughout all of New England, many were wondering if there would their beloved Patriots be able to rebound after two demoralizing losses on the road and the Josh Gordon circus last week. With the regular season just two weeks from ending, there was an air of uncertainty of the Patriots’ playoff future. But then the Buffalo Bills came into town with a rookie QB and an inept offense, the perfect cure for what was ailing the home team. The Patriots then proceeded to run all over their tomato can opponent, not only running them out of Foxborough and into the chilly December night but also running into AFC East Divisional Title and the AFC #2 Playoff Seed.

Rhode Island basketball prepares to say “Aloha,” tipping off in the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu against Bucknell on Saturday. Since their loss to Providence College in the rivalry game, Rhode Island has been lights out- winning two games away from the Ryan Center against Holy Cross and West Virginia. In those two, they’ve outscored their opponents 162-133 while pulling down 81 rebounds. Between the scoring of their backcourt and the dominance of their front court, David Cox’s Rams look as if they’re about to hit their stride in time for a few quality wins in Hawaii.

For quite a few years, I have written the memorial for noteworthy passages that occur over the course of the past year for WBOB. Unfortunately there are losses that can put a damper on any holiday spirit when reflected upon, so I will proceed, but with one condition: We all suffer a loss close to us during the course of any given year and the healing process takes years. So read on with this request; give yourself the gift of silent reflection for just a few moments and think of the people you’ve loved that have moved on. For the staff at 990WBOB that loss hit home this year when we lost a beloved friend and colleague, David Clyde (Kaplan). Here’s hoping the universe has open arms for all of those we lost. |
