In previous years under the Bill Belichick regime, when the calendar year turns to December the New England Patriots have either clenched a playoff spot or were about to going into Week 13. But in 2020, things are a little different as the Patriots are fighting to just stay alive in the playoff hunt. After getting a big victory at home against the Arizona Cardinals, the Patriots head out on the road for their next 3 games. The first game on the road trip was a late Sunday afternoon game against the Los Angeles Chargers in the City of Angels. But what many thought could have been a closely-tight game turned into one giant blowout. In the words of Julius Caesar, the Patriots came, they saw, and they conquered. Mark Colley
It’s the nightmare scenario we tried so hard to avoid for months: Hospitals in Rhode Island are at capacity. As beds run out, so too will room for patients in need of care. People will die. There is much to be said about the public health response that has so far failed to control the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. But governor Gina Raimondo must be commended for putting health first and instituting a two-week pause on bars and gyms, among other restrictions. Further, Raimondo should be commended for putting education ahead of recreation in her newly-imposed restrictions. Bucking the national trend, the governor is keeping elementary and middle schools open, as well as some high schools. This pandemic continues to present a host of incredibly difficult choices for governments across the country, and Rhode Island is no exception. After all, being a politician means making decisions and, in most cases, making sacrifices. This is not a perfect world; compromises must be made |
