It's summertime! Time to go outside, catch a ballgame, get a tan, grow a garden...
But let's be honest, sometimes it's just too damn hot to leave the comfort of one's air conditioned house. So while we here at 990WBOB wish for you to get the most of your summer, hit the links, jump in the ocean, or whatever floats your boat (heck, go sailing!), we understand that the great indoors serves as fantastic refuge from the heat (it's the humidity that gets you). Alas, here are some great binge-watching options for the 2018 summer. Ozark (Netflix)
Financial planner Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) suddenly relocates the family from the Chicago suburbs to a summer resort community in the Missouri Ozarks after a money laundering scheme goes wrong, and he must pay off a debt to a Mexican drug lord. When the Byrdes arrive to their new rural home, they become entangled with local criminals, complicating business for Byrde and the cartel.
Season 1: Summer 2017 Season 2: Summer 2018 Altered Carbon (Netflix)
The series takes place over 300 years in the future, in the year 2384. In the future, a person's memories can be decanted in a disk-shaped device called a cortical stack, which is implanted in the vertebrae at the back of the neck. These storage devices are of alien design and have been reverse engineered and mass produced. Physical human or synthetic bodies called "sleeves" are used as vessels that can accept any stack. Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman), a political operative with mercenary skills, wakes up 250 years after his previous sleeve is terminated. He is given the choice to either spend the rest of time in prison for his crimes, or to help solve the murder of Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy), one of the wealthiest men in the settled worlds. Takeshi was the sole surviving soldier of those defeated in an uprising against the new world order 250 years prior.
Season 1: Spring 2018 Westworld (HBO)
In an unspecified time in the future, Westworld, one of six theme parks owned and operated by Delos Inc., allows guests to experience the American Old West in an environment populated by "hosts", androids programmed to fulfill the guest's every desire.
The hosts follow a predefined set of intertwining narratives but have the ability to deviate from these narratives based on interactions they have with guests. The hosts repeat their narrative anew each day—having had their memories of the previous day erased—until they are repurposed or stowed away for use in other narratives. For guest safety, hosts are unable to harm any lifeform; this allows guests nearly unlimited freedom to engage without retribution in any activity they choose with the hosts, including rape and murder. Staff situated in a control center called "The Mesa", connected to the park through vast underground facilities, oversee daily operations, develop new narratives, and perform repairs on hosts as necessary. Season 1: Fall 2016 Season 2: Spring 2018 Evil Genius (Netflix)
Evil Genius: The True Story of America's Most Diabolical Bank Heist is a 2018 true crime docuseries about the murder of Brian Wells, a high-profile 2003 incident often referred to as the "collar bomb" or "pizza bomber" case.
Season 1: Spring 2018 Preacher (AMC)
Jesse Custer, a hard-drinking, chain-smoking preacher who, enduring a crisis of faith, becomes infused with an extraordinary power. He embarks on a quest to better understand his new gift, alongside his trigger-happy ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and new vampire friend, Cassidy.
