At The Rally to Resist Marxism this past Saturday on the grounds of the Rhode Island State House, some thirty members of mostly out of state right-wing extremist groups, along with their associates, took to the State House steps to deliver a series of rambling and unprofound statements before dispersing at the order of Rhode Island State Police. Ahead of the rally, some two hundred and fifty counter-protesters had assembled on the south lawn of the State House, facing a very large riot police presence, including canine units, snippers, and multiple body armor-clad units nearly surrounding the south lawn
Members of the Washington-based right-wing hate group, The Proud Boys; clad in black and yellow polo shirts, MAGA hats and well-known Nazi regalia, assaulted and berated counter-protestors, serving as a self-appointed security force.
All of this occurred under the watch of the police force, who did not intervene. The Proud Boys each displayed a physique and temperament not unlike an ‘ultra-American’, steroid fueled WWE gimmick; caricatures of idiotic bigots, designed for the entertainment of the lowest common denominator. The Proud Boys, a faction of morons, who likely could not put forth a single member with the ability to properly spell any three consecutive words, would be a sideshow and an afterthought if not for their dangerous encroachment on a just world. From violently slapping a female counter-protester, to scuffling with - and then hiding from - onlookers, to posturing as faux-rugged backwoodsman, to excitingly prepping for violent encounters with counter-protesters once the police order to disperse went into effect, The Proud Boys, along with all of the speakers from Saturday’s rally proved to be top-shelf contributors to the fertile environment for disdain that has handed the Oval Office to a widely despised person. Far from delivering a conservative message, The Proud Boys and their associates from this past Saturday’s rally continued the modern-day undoing of the Republican party, further signaling to voters that they are no longer an opposition party of conservative principles, but rather, a platform for all of the Diet Coke Vince McMahons and middle school gym-class bullies of the world.
