It just seemed like yesterday that the New England Patriots clenched their 6th Super Bowl title and were busy celebrating like it was their first time winning one. After the confetti was swept up, the late night talk show guest appearances were all filmed, and the ceremonial puck drops at local Bruins games, it was time for the Patriots’ front office to get back to work. With the NFL 2019 season looming in the distance, Belichick and Kraft have to take a look at their roster. Although they won the Super Bowl, holes and positions of need on the Patriots roster have emerged and have to be addressed immediately if they wish to contend for their record breaking 7th Lombardi in 2019. On January 29th, Jussie Smollett was the victim of an alleged hate crime committed by two white men, in ski masks, who beat, tied a rope around his neck and poured bleach on him. The men also allegedly made racial and homophobic slurs and shouted, “This is MAGA country” as they fled. A few weeks later, Jussie Smollett was in police custody, charged with disorderly conduct for filing a false police report; a Class 4 felony that carries a maximum sentence of three years. Put yourself in Zion Williamson’s shoes- or shoe. First of all, you’re probably icing your knee, wondering how big you need to be for your own foot to bust out of your shoe. Second, you’re wondering how a team with two top-5 picks, not including yourself, can roll over on their own home floor in a rivalry game (maybe). Then, you have a decision to make. There isn’t one General Manager in the NBA that wouldn’t take Williamson with the first overall pick. Aside from Wednesday’s game, Duke is still Duke without him. Coach K can figure something out. We are known as “Little Rhody” for a reason. Many states have individual counties bigger than the entire state, and one can drive across the state from border to border in minutes -- not hours. Everyone seems to know everyone, and everyone shares the same experiences. But once we Rhode Islanders get a taste of the outside life, is when everyone wants “Little Rhody” to make big changes, and add some new local businesses. Christian Martinelli
Rhode Island is the smallest state in the union. It is convenient, compact, congested, charming, and corrupted. As a native Rhode Islander I love living here, but the biggest downside of Rhode Island is the lack of entertainment based activities. Well, besides all that corruption nonsense I guess. |
