Religion can be a wonderful thing. It can instill values, community, and help us through some of the most difficult times in our lives. But, when we start creating our own context for our religious beliefs, it can be very dangerous. That is what seems to be happening today in America -- specifically with Christianity. The same people who quote biblical verses to condemn the actions of others are routinely ignoring the vast majority of the teachings of the same book. Now, one modern adaptation of a popular comic strip has helped us create a dialogue which few of us dare to commence: blasting holes into the flawed logic of many (certainly not all) right wing christian conservatives. Check out the perfectly executed comic below
On May 18, the U.S. average retail price for gasoline was $2.74 per gallon ($/gal), or 92¢ per gallon (¢/gal) lower than at the same time last year. This is the lowest average price heading into the Memorial Day weekend—the traditional start of the summer driving season—since 2009. Lower gasoline prices reflect lower crude oil prices, with the spot price of North Sea Brent crude oil at more than $45 per barrel ($/b) lower than the same time last year, despite having increased more than $10/b since the beginning of February.

It’s Memorial Day weekend, what are you doing? Is the most difficult part of your plans this weekend choosing which of the variety of homemade salads to choose from at the family cookout? Hey, I get it, it’s a tough choice between Aunt Ida’s potato salad, Mom’s macaroni salad, and Uncle Joe’s taco salad. It’s also a fortunate choice to have because if it weren’t for our military heroes you might not have that choice, in fact you might not have a cookout at all. Four individuals, including two mail sorters employed at the Providence Processing and Distribution Center, have been charged in U.S. District Court in Providence by way of federal criminal complaints for their alleged roles in a conspiracy to steal U.S. Treasury checks from the mail and either sell them on the street or deposit them in bank accounts opened with stolen or fraudulent personal information. The funds were withdrawn from ATM machines or used to make retail purchases with the use of debit cards.
