The East Providence Chamber of Commerce has chosen Aspen Aerogels as the 2014 recipient of its annual Business of the Year Award. Each year, the Chamber hosts a gathering that acknowledges and highlights the efforts of local businesses. This year’s dinner and award ceremony will be held on November 20 at the Metacomet Country Club on 500 Veterans Memorial Parkway in East Providence. Aspen Aerogels, a leading energy technology company with manufacturing operations located in East Providence, will be honored for its continued growth, job creation, and community involvement. “Aspen’s economic contributions and active engagement with the city have not gone unnoticed,” said Laura McNamara, Executive Director of the East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce. “The career opportunities Aspen provides in our area and in the state, plus its support of the East Providence community serves as an example to other businesses in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.” Aspen now joins a long list of outstanding Rhode Island businesses that have received this honor over the last fifteen years, including East Commerce Solutions, Munroe Dairy and Peregrine Group. “We are very pleased to receive this award,” said Gerry Simpson, Plant Manager at Aspen Aerogels. “It is a real honor to be recognized by the East Providence Chamber of Commerce for our commitment to the community.” The ceremony’s cocktail hour will begin at 5:30 pm, followed by dinner at 6:30 pm. The event will feature guest speaker Kim Zandy of WPRO FM’s Giovanni and Kim in the Morning radio show as well as a raffle and a silent auction. |
