The Boston Red Sox have made the first splash of the 2017 Hot Stove season, and boy is it a big kerplunk!
According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthall, The White Sox will ship their 27-year old ace, Chris Sale, to Boston in exhcange for top prospects Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech.
The details are forthcoming, but for now, it appears that Boston is committed to Pablo Sandoval at third base, and will now have a pitching rotation featuring David Price, Chris Sale, and 2016 Cy Young winner, Rick Porcello.
Yoan Moncada has widely been considered baseball's top prospect, but he has failed to produce at the big league level. With just 4 hits in 19 career at-bats, the 21-year old Moncada seemed to struggle with big-league pitching, in a short sample size. Michael Kopech (age 20) was the 33rd overall pick in the 2014 MLB Entry Draft. He is a consensus top-100 prospect, and his fastball has been clocked at speeds exceeding 105 MPH.
