The Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) are excited to announce a new, special summer service that will enable fans to use public transportation to get to weekend PawSox games from Providence this summer – for free.
The special service, which begins next weekend on Saturday, June 17, is being provided by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT). The free service will be offered for every Saturday and Sunday home game for the rest of the 2017 season.
The service will have six stops in Providence and will run through Sunday, August 27, the regular season home finale for the PawSox. The game dates that will have the free service are… June 17 and 18; July 1, 2, 8, 9, 22, and 23; and August 12, 13, 26, and 27.
All Saturday games will begin at 6:15 pm, with the exception of June 17 which is a make-up doubleheader at 4:35 pm, and all will be followed by post-game fireworks at McCoy. All Sunday games will begin a 1:35 pm, with the exception of July 2 which is a 6:15 pm start with fireworks after the game.
“Thanks to RIDOT, RIPTA and the PawSox all working together, fans will have the option of relaxing and taking the bus to a game,” said Barbara Polichetti, Director of Public Affairs for RIPTA. “This service will make it easy for people who live in the city to get to a game and will also hopefully encourage tourists to add a visit to Pawtucket to their list of local activities while they are in town.”
“We’re grateful to our friends at RIDOT and RIPTA for their efforts in this exciting, new partnership,” said PawSox Executive Vice President/General Manager Dan Rea. “We look forward to seeing many fans make the short trip from Providence to Pawtucket for a PawSox game this summer.”
