Joe Ferro There's a new name percolating in the coffee world, Ferro Coffee in Warren RI is awakening pallets everywhere. In this WBOB small business spotlight I sat down with those behind the new coffee sensation, owner operators Holly and Aaron. Joe Ferro- Tell us what drives your passion for craft coffee and tea? Ferro Coffee- Being Portuguese/Cape Verdean, we were heavily influenced by the European inclination toward coffee and tea. It has been a part of our lives since we were young. Our grandmother would make us breakfast with a cup of coffee since we were toddlers, so it definitely stuck. Now as adults we wanted to learn and share more about what we have enjoyed most of our lives. JF- When did you start Ferro Coffee? FC- We registered as a business in January of 2020 but launched the business March first of 2021. JF- How is it working as a brother and sister team? FC- It’s been mentioned a few times that working with family can be rough but we are both confident in saying that we are an exception. We aren’t saying we don’t have disagreements but we are always willing to go with the better approach to a problem regardless of who came up with the solution. We work together to find a unified solution. JF-What were some of the difficulties in opening a new business during the pandemic? FC- Holly and I were actually in negotiations and just about to sign a lease on a location the week the lockdowns were announced. Although the situation was tough for many of us personally and economically it was a godsend for us; it allowed us to restructure and pivot into another feasible direction. JF- Of all the coffee varieties you’ve enjoyed what are some of the ones people should look out for? What's your favorite? FC- I’m a fan of Ethiopian,Yemeni and Sumatran blends. Our Phoenix dark roast is the mutual favorite of Holly and I. Phoenix is a sumatran blend. JF- Favorite tea? FC- (Aaron) My favorite teas are Taste of Autumn which is a Rooibos; it’s a great herbal tea to have in the evening and relax. Holly’s favorites are MyTy Orange and Pom Onyx; both great fruity herbal blends. JF- Is there a possible timeline of the brick and mortar location being open? FC- We are hoping to have a brick and mortar open in about a year to 18 months pending COVID restrictions. JF- Where can people find your product? FC- You can find us at www.ferrocoffee.com JF- Hit us with all your socials and ways fans can learn more about the wonderful world of craft coffee and tea? FC- Ferro Coffee on Facebook and on instagram @ferrocoffeeri for information, new products and updates. And there you have it.
