Allan Giberti Host of RI Red Radio Mon & Tue 7pm Yes, you read that right, “The Continued Pussification of America”. It’s alive and well and more annoying than ever. It’s the constant softening of people, their resolve and their will. If there was ever a time that a large number of people needed a bitch slap, it would be now. I can’t ever recall a time when more people needed a swift kick in the ass if for no reason other than to help dislodge their swollen craniums from the deep recess of their bowels. Next weekend is the official beginning of summer and what do we have to look forward to here in the Ocean State? Closed beaches? An absence of summer festivals? More edicts from her Majesty Governor Gina Raimondo on how she wants us to safely live our lives because we don’t know any bette Yeah, all of that should be nothing new to anyone unless your last three months of self-imposed quarantine took place under a rock. Not only is that old news, it’s very old news and should not be a surprise or shock to anyone, yet the gasps of outrage are everywhere. It’s so bad I feel like I’m in gay bar that’s hosting a party for the season finale of “The Bachelorette”. You’d think instead of PPEs, there would be a shortage of pearls for people to clutch. “She’s (the Guv) cancelled Summer!” Oh, the tyranny. If you were worried that our founding father Roger Williams was spinning in his grave before the Chinese coronavirus outbreak, you ain’t seen nothing. By now, poor Mr. Williams is doing the Macarena. How can we have we failed so, yet still be so entitled and full of ourselves? Because that’s a big part of the problem. Everyone wants the benefit of being a free people but most don’t want to do the work and suffer the consequences. Instead of taking to the streets with acts of civil disobedience we rush to Facebook and then cry when our precious posts are removed or if we find ourselves on a ban from social media. When did a Facebook, Twitter or Instagram post ever actually bring justice to an oppressed people? When has someone’s Facebook post ever changed the world, eased suffering for a people or brought peace to a nation? It never has and it never will so if you think your posts will somehow solve the world, country or state’s problems just stop now because not only are you delusional but you’re screwed from the word go. People who write posts that begin with, “If you (insert some butt hurt statement or belief here), then unfriend me now,” need a reality check and an extended period of some alone time to reevaluate their highly inflated sense of self-worth. Honestly how self-important is that and who the hell cares? All those posts convey is how much you need to get off of social media and back into the real world. You are so upset that you are giving your Facebook friends an ultimatum. If whatever it is upsets you so much, then unfriend those who disagree with you. End those oh so meaningful social media relationships with people you’ve never met or occasionally interacted with in real life and grow a set. Do you honestly think the people you’ve laid the law down to really care what you think? Do you think they’ll lose sleep over your lost friendship or endlessly pine over your chapped ass? No, they don’t and neither do I because the old adage has never been truer, actions speak louder than words. Much like the boy who cried wolf, when you constantly bitch about something yet fail to do anything about it, people stop listening. Your words become as empty and impotent as Governor Gina Raimondo’s proclamations. If you don’t want to wear a mask, don’t wear one. Stop tooting your own horn and reminding us how “liberty minded” you are. It’s as appealing and inspiring as telling people you’re a rebel. If you want to go to the beach with your friends, just go. Don’t share how edgy and brave you are. True rabble rousers aren’t attention whores who need to make another notch on their belt. If you want to participate in faith services do so because it is your right to do so and embrace the consequences. Live your life as you see fit and worship as you please. I’m willing to bet Mahatma Gandhi would have done more than post his grievances to inspire civil rights movements and freedom if they had been cursed with “social media” at the time. Put down the phone and see the world with your own eyes, not through a screen. If you don’t like what you see then change it. If not, then shut the hell up. Live your life for real people and friends less you lose them to the virtual ones. As a wise teacher once said, “Do or do not.
