Christian Martinelli The NCAA is the governing body for all college sports from Division 1 down through club sports. They give young athletes the opportunity to play in a very organized and professional setting against other schools from around the country. They help kids that may not always be in the situation to afford college a chance to go get an education, and possibly better their own and families lives. All that being said, the NCAA is the worst organization in all of sports, and yes I’m including FIFA in that as well. The NCAA is an organization that preys off of young athletes putting out a fantastic product on the ice, court, field, track, etc. to make them outrageous amounts of money. The NCAA until last week has forbade its athletes to make any money in any way possible, while profiting billions annually off the backs of these kids' hard work. These athletes could not do promotions, get taken out to lunch, and will put sanctions on anything that could possibly make these a little hit of pocket cash. The NCAA has for years been banning players doing anything money related, just as of last week Clemson Quarterback Trevor Lawrence wanted to raise money for Coronavirus research and the NCAA shut him down immediately. Those are the type of situations the NCAA is notorious for, no one is better at making an ass out of themselves than they are. Players don’t make any profits even though some teams like LSU Football bring the college 50+ million dollars annually to support its entire athletic program. The players while some get free housing, meal plans, and education still don’t see any profits and the NCAA reaps the rewards of these athletes' hard work 365 days a year. For the longest time I’ve felt as though these college athletes that bring in money for the school should be getting a cut of it. Most of them are never going pro and come from destitute backgrounds where money is always a problem. The NCAA hoards all this money, and uses it to make themselves rich while young men and women see nothing for their years of dedication. Thankfully the NCAA has finally seen the light and is starting to make changes to their corrupt ways. The athletes are now able to use their likeness to make money, and help support their oftentimes struggling families. This is a step in the right direction for the NCAA, but there is still a long way to go from them being an awful organization. Once they decide to pay the players of programs that bring in the big money I’ll reassess, but for now they made their first positive move in years hopefully this is the direction the NCAA moves their organization for the future. The players are the product, and without them the NCAA is nothing, it’s about damn time the get the compensation they deserve. Read More 990WBOB |
