In a video announcement released on Monday, the husband of Olympic gold medalist Michelle Kwan announced his bid for Governor's Office.  He joins Democratic candidates RI General Treasurer Gina Raimondo, Providence Mayor Angel Tavares, and WBOB's Todd Giroux; along with entrepreneur Ken Block, and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung from the other side of the aisle. 

Beyond familial ties, and a pseudo-celebrity wife, does Pell have any remarkable qualities to build a voter base around? 

Charisma

Clay Pell has none.  Just watch his video announcement (below).  No energy enthusiasm, or confidence.  His voice and tone come across as unsure, scripted, and over-rehearsed. 

His smile is forced, and at no point does he seem comfortable. He is dressed in a manner that screams "rich and privileged."

Clearly Clay pell has spent a fair amount of money for publicity and exposure.  If this is the final product, what did the rough cut look like?

INTELLIGENT But Inexperienced

Clay Pell is clearly a smart man.  He is Harvard educated, with a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown, and fluent in 3 languages.   But at 32-years old  with no private sector experience and just over five years of professional experience in any capacity, serious questions can be raised as to his ability to manage the floundering Ocean State. 

Is Clay Pell electable? 

Probably not.
