The interview is below, but check out the show, headlined by The Gutter Demons, and supported by Damnation and Vagora on Thursday, February 22nd (8PM show, $10 Cover)
Tony Jones: How long have the Gutter Demons been playing?
Johnny Töxik: Gutter Demons have been playing since 2001. 16 years on! Tony Jones: How Did the band get started? Johnny Töxik: Gutter Demons members were the core of a Montreal neo-rockabilly band called Rosekill. We pretty much started there, staying after jam to work on our own stuff. Tony Jones: Tell us about the the band members, who does what? Johnny Töxik: We Have Gutter Flipper on the Upright bass. R-1 is our drummer since 2013. And me, Johnny Töxik, guitar and lead vocals. Tony Jones: Does the band have any musical influences that people might be surprised by? Johnny Töxik: Surprised by? I don't know. We do have a lot of different influences. From rockabilly and psychobilly to punk, garage, surf, rock, heavy metal... It's easier to tell you what are NOT our influences! (laugh) We listen to a lot of music and genre. I guess that's what make our own music so special for so many different people. There's people from many musical background that appreciate what we do and it's very cool. Tony Jones: Tell us about the current tour, what can those who attend the upcoming gig expect? Johnny Töxik: Blood, sweat, spits, cursed words and infamy! Fast rock and roll and a climax! The best way to tell would be for people to witness it themselves! We're pretty bad at throwing adjectives to ourselves (laugh). But seriously, It's actually our first east coast tour. We are very happy about this opportunity and we are really looking forward to it. Tony Jones: What keeps bringing the band back to touring? Johnny Töxik: Well, that's what we do. That's how we make a living and we enjoy every second of it! We really dig being onstage, it's addictive! It's the best way to be in touch with the crowd. It's makes the ole thing way crazier!! Tony Jones: Do you have a favorite place to tour? Johnny Töxik: No, every place is different. That's another thing that makes touring so amazing. Every cities and every countries is unique in their own way. We're lucky enough to travel all around the world to play rock n' roll and we made so many friends along the way. Tony Jones: What does the future hold for The Gutter Demons? Johnny Töxik: We are working on a new album right now, our 5th album to be exact. It should be out next fall. The writing process is going really well. We're trying to push ourselves a little bit more every time and it's great. The ole creating process is as important as the touring part. We will be in studio in June if everything's goes accordingly. There's a few things in the making that we cannot talk about yet, you know how it is!! Of course, a new album means more shows and touring. People, make sure to follow us on social media for all the band's updates! Read More WBOB |
