Democratic mayoral candidate Jorge Elorza has announced the endorsement of Myrth York, former State Senator and Democratic gubernatorial candidate. This comes on the heels of endorsements from State Senator Gayle Goldin, State Representative Edith Ajello, Ward 13 Councilman Bryan Principe, Brett Smiley, and the Providence Journal. York was previously a co-chair of the Smiley campaign. “Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to take a new look at the candidates in this race, and Jorge Elorza quickly emerged as the clear choice,” said York. “His experience, his commitment to a principled and ethical city government, and his fresh ideas for Providence make him the right person to lead our city. Jorge offers the vision and citywide coalition that will move our city forward and defeat Buddy Cianci in November.” Elorza commented, “Myrth York has been a leading voice in Democratic politics in this state for a long time, and it’s an honor to earn her support. I look forward to drawing on her knowledge and experience as we move Providence into a new chapter of strong schools, a thriving economy, and an honest, trustworthy City Hall.” Elorza is a candidate in next Tuesday’s Democratic primary for Mayor of Providence. |
