It violates the 10th amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It represents a failure on the part of the Legislative, Executive, & Judicial branches to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. In addition to the further deterioration of the Bill of Rights, the Affordable Care Act creates a dangerous precedent which will condemn future generations of Americans to far less freedom than we enjoy today. Even the freedom of choosing what to eat for breakfast could be in jeopardy. It is NOT the role of Government to ensure that medical care is affordable, but if this fallacy is accepted then the flawed logic continues: Government would be responsible for ensuring people have "access" to medical care - which leads to Government being responsible for ensuring that people are able to maintain a minimum standard of health - which leads to Government having a legitimate reason to scrutinize and regulate anything that would affect that minimum standard of health. This manifests in three ways: First, the food we eat has a huge impact on our health - Government would be justified in having more intensive control over the food supply, possibly even becoming responsible for ensuring that people have a minimum amount to eat (imagine the logistics of that!) and dictating what quality and quantity of food people consume. Second, the products we buy could affect our health so Government would be justified in more intensive control over what products are sold in stores and what we use at home. Third, our behavior/ the activities we participate in everyday - from bike riding, to skiing, to painting...all of our diverse pastimes and recreational activities would now be subject to scrutiny by Government because of the possible negative effect on a person's health. Does this sound absurd? Haven't you already seen Government attempts to control these aspects of our lives? "Obamacare" is just another symptom of that cultural disease which has affected our country - a failure to understand the true achievement that is America. We are NOT property, we are NOT slaves, and we are NOT livestock! Tony Jones - WBOB Corespondent Personal freedom has defined America since the very beginning; it’s painful to see a value of which our country was founded upon begin to erode away. Like the saying goes, “give them inch and they’ll take a mile”; the health insurance mandate might not seem like much yet, however, allowing the government to determine how an individual person can and should spend their money is the first step down a road on which we not seek to travel. Think of what could be next? Online only applications are now the norm for most decent jobs. So, shouldn't we all be required to buy internet access? Communication is a must. How about some cellphone-care? Or perhaps the next time one of our made in the USA car makers like Ford or GM takes a turn for the worst, the government should allows us to only buy domestic?
