RIPTA Bus Accident Claims Life of Young Girl

A young girl was struck by a RIPTA bus Thursday morning on Smith Street in Providence, just a few blocks west of the Rhode Island State House. The young girl later died from her injuries.

The incident, which occurred shortly before 9:00 am on Thursday morning is still under investigation. The victim, who remains unnamed, is believed to be under 10 years old, and was apparently with her father at the time of the accident.

Traffic had been detoured around the accident scene, but was restored shortly before 11 am. It is unclear if the driver will be cited, or if any charges will be filed.
