An amazing band with a "everyone hi-fiving everyone" epic rock sound, Fang Island is back with their second album, Major, and it's guaranteed to make your jaw drop and your head bang. Forming at The Rhode Island School of Design originally as an art project back in 2005, the band at one time had 5 members but over the years has been twiddled down to a trio consisting of founder Chris Georges on guitar while sharing vocal duties with another guitarist in Jason Bartell and drummer Marc St. Sauveur beibg the backbone of the group with his thunderous skills. Together these three guys form one of the best underground indie bands out there today.

Joyus harmonies, tightly wound rhythms and triumphant solos are the best way to describe Fang Island's music. A band that feels like it could have made a soundtrack to an 80s sci-fi adventure flick but still has a modern quality that gives it them the ability to have a uniquely fantastic sound. Great party music that makes me think if Andrew W.K. was influenced by Pink Floyd more than Queen and Van Halen, it would sound a lot like Fang Island. Major does great work of showcasing Fang Island's spine-tingling talents to a t, promising to give your eardrums a sensation it has never felt before.

- Robert Duguay

"Regalia" is groovy to the core, showing different elements including trumpets and keyboards accenting the shredding of guitars and pulsating drums. "Seek It Out" is a tad bit on the heavier side with a earth-shattering downbeat that you can definitely bob your head to. "Sisterly" is a purely motivational track that definitely kicks ass, a must-listen if you're always looking for something to listen to in order to get revved up. "Never Understand" is another groovalicious anthem that's all about how ignorance is bliss, featuring blistering riffs that's bound to blow you away. "Dooney Rock" is an instrumental that starts up like an electric bluegrass tune and then halfway through it becomes a full blown rock opus. "Chompers" is another face-melting instrumental that has spine-tingling chord progressions and riffs that will leave you in awe. Despite me only highlighting a few, don't just rely on my opinion and grab a copy of the album to listen in for yourself and see what you think.

Fang Island will be embarking on a 36-date tour of The United States starting on July 19th opening for The Hold Steady at The Arch Street Tavern in Hartford, CT and ending at The Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY on August 30th. Unfortunately for us New England music fans the only date Fang Island will be in the region will be in Hartford on the 19th, but who says you can't make the trip? While we collectively wait until Fang Island graces out local music venue with their magnificent presence, pick up a copy of Major, the band's new album. It'll introduce to a brand of rock & roll you've never experienced before in all your days.
