An Oklahoma satanic group unveiled designs Monday for a 7-foot-tall statue of Satan it wants to put at the state Capitol, where a Ten Commandments monument was placed in 2012. The group believes the statue will compliment and contrast with the Catholic monument. The Satanists' proposed landmark delineates Baphomet, a goat-headed agnostic icon sitting on a 7-foot-tall throne engraved with a pentagram. In a craftsman's rendering given by the Satanic Temple, grinning youngsters turn adoringly toward the insidious figure. "The statue will serve as a beacon calling for compassion and empathy among all living creatures," Lucien Greaves, a spokesman for the Satanic Temple, said in a statement according to CNN. "The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation.” The push by the Satanic Temple has irritated chosen pioneers in this preservationist state reputed to be the clasp of the Bible Belt, who say such a proposal might never be endorsed by the requisition. Accordingly, the Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission as of late set a ban on acknowledging any new demands. More WBOB Stories |
