The Boobs of Boobstock Past

As the year draws to a close, it’s time to reflect and think back about the events. One event that always draws me back and makes me think is none other than Boobstock. As a ‘Boobstock veteran,’ I have personally attended each event for the past 5 years and each time, I'm left speechless and in awe.

When 990WBOB station manager, Adam Palazio, first drew up the idea back in 2009, there was a mixed reaction to the name. Some liked it while others thought using ‘Boob’ in a name was somewhat crude. However, the event was far from crude. At Firehouse #13, there was a good turnout for the first year. The people there were treated to local comedians, including an up and coming guy named Dan Martin, as well as great musicians such as Tony Jones and the Cretin 3, The Rice Cakes, and VJ Live. The event turned out to be such a success that the next year in 2010, Firehouse #13 hosted the 2nd 990WBOB Boobstock with the usual crowd tuning in and gaining new performers like King Sickabilly.

It was in 2011 that BoobStock took off. That year, the Apartment took the honors of hosting the event. The atmosphere was almost Hollywood-esque, with a red carpet and a giant ‘Boobstock’ wall. Boobstock veteran performers such Tony Jones & The Cretin 3 and Viking Jesus continued to make an appearance as well as the likes of other local musicians like Sugar Honey Ice Tea and  Sienna made the card.

While everybody was in fear that the world was going to end, Boobstock #4 raised the bar. Instead of being in once place, it was split up into two big halves. The first half took place at the PVD Social Club, where you had a kissing booth, mini pigs, and as well as a plethora of talent. Not to mention that Boobstock was the last venue that Kanerko would play together and they went out with a bang. Then the second half went big, taking place in the Big Apple itself over at the Irish Exit. The Can't Nots, Josh Willis, Kris Hansen and Chicago's favorite son Brad Allan Dennison took the stage as Boobstock took NYC by storm.

Then just recently, Boobstock went into it's 5th year. Nestled in between the bosom of the World Series and Halloween, the turnout was just as big. Though WBOB personalities Rob Duguay and Kevin Aherne were set up in the Kissing Booth, it was the mini-pigs that were getting all the treats. Speaking of treats, people were treated to the musical performances from Sex Coffee, The Stilts, Torn Shorts, and Kait Clavette.

Now as 2013 comes to a close, we can only look forward to next year's Boobstock. However, 990WBOB has stated that there will not be another.
