On the Latest episode of HBO's Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver poked fun at the Rhode Island's history of political corruption as part of a segment on the power and importance of local legislatures in U.S. democracy. In particular, John Oliver used the example of RI State Senators Dominick Ruggerio and Frank A. Ciccone's threats against police officers during Ruggerio's 2012 DUI arrest to point out how outrageous local lawmakers can behave at times.
