Because it keeps blowing up my feed, I figured I'd offer up my own (correct) opinion on the whole Syrian refugee thing. Guess what? As usual, it falls into the middle of the two belligerent extremes. Yes, we should help these people and allow them into the country through proper channels. Yes, this reveals how much more we could be doing for the unfortunate in our own country if doing so was politically expedient. Rep. Aaron Regunberg is urging Gov. Gina Raimondo to remain committed to accepting refugees from the Syrian crisis, saying Rhode Island must remain true to America’s identity as a sanctuary for those seeking peace and safety.
In a letter sent this afternoon, Representative Regunberg (D-Dist. 4, Providence) urged the governor to resist calls made after this weekend’s terrorist attack in Paris for her to rescind her willingness to offer sanctuary to refugees if asked by the federal government. Dee DeQuattro
I am just as mad and disgusted about the senseless violence that has left more than 100 people dead in France as the next person -- but at the same time, I am shocked that people are surprised that this could happen. I am stunned that people believed President Obama’s claims that ISIS is under control, and I am astonished that people are bewildered that terrorism is alive and well. This is the world in which we live. A world where despite all of the good and beautiful things, darkness and terrible things exist -- including ISIS and Jihadists that will do anything to kill innocent people in the name of some warped version of a god that they worship.
All eyes are on Paris this week, just days after a horrific series of orchestrated attacks terrorized the French capital. And while most of the world looked on in fear, but with solidarity and support for our brethren, some losers found the need to use social media to politicize the tragedy, and attempt to gain support for their own agendas. They used this tragedy as their soap box, stepping all over the victims while the attacks were still unfolding.

We need you, Donald. We need you now more than ever. We need someone to pull our country’s balls from its abdomen and drag them back into the scrotum where they once rested comfortably during the glory days of Ronald Reagan’s Star Wars foreign policy and our refreshing disregard for political correctness. The iconic image of Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A. album cover used to serve as an idyllic snapshot of our once proud nation’s core values, the brawny, able-bodied working man in his American-made blue jeans with a tattered baseball cap stuffed into the back pocket putting in a 14-hour day to earn his keep. Now it’s Wiz Khalifa in skinny jeans holding a bullhorn shouting about solidarity, social justice or some other combination of obnoxious liberal buzzwords. |
