Allan Giberti Last Tuesday, President Donald J. Trump gave his State of the Union Address (it is STRONG) and stated that “America will never be a socialist country.” Thursday, Democratic Socialist, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced the “Green New Deal’ climate resolution, cosponsored by Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), and would call for “massive government intervention.” How can a government be truly democratic when the only choices people can make are controlled by the government? Most of us know what Socialism is, but what is Democratic Socialism? To wrap your head around that, you need to realize that liberals have trouble with adjectives. They’ve had issues confusing adjectives with verbs like assault, but more recently they have been dropping adjectives like, “illegal” and adding them to words when they’re not really there. For example, take the word nationalist. Somewhere in the wiring of the liberal brain, much like Pavlov’s dogs, they see the word white and now nationalist has become synonymous with white nationalist. However, they believe that if the word Democratic is added to the word Socialist that it somehow changes the meaning. It doesn’t. It makes it an oxymoron, you morons. How serious would you take someone who was a little pregnant? Socialism is socialism, no matter how you dress it up or what under what guise you present it. It is not, nor will it ever be democratic. In order to combat climate change, the resolution calls for: net-zero global greenhouse gas emissions from human sources by 2050; meeting 100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable and zero-emission energy sources in ten years; the government creation of affordable public transit available to all, with the goal of replacing every combustion-engine vehicle; ending systemic injustice; ensuring wage and benefit parity for workers; repairing historic oppression of indigenous communities, communities of color, migrant communities, deindustrialized communities; creating a government-guaranteed job for every American and economic security for all who are unable or unwilling to work. Remember, with economic security for all also comes economic equality. No matter how hard you work, or if you choose to not to work, your financial worth will be the same as someone who chooses not to work. Why break your back working forty to fifty hours a week if you don’t have to? If people who commit welfare and disability fraud already ticks you off, realize that socialist economic equality is nothing more than legalized welfare and disability fraud which is encouraged. Oh and while we’re at it, let’s just throw in universal health care. Go big or go home, right? What’s the plan to achieve this utopia in ten years? Rebuilding or upgrading every building in the United States and these aren’t your simple home energy efficient upgrades folks. This isn’t National Grid coming by and handing you a case of LED light bulbs and a 10% off coupon for an energy efficient refrigerator. We’re talking about ripping out any existing heating and cooling systems, duct work and all, and replacing them with new, government approved systems, home electrical systems, plumbing, windows, doors, appliances, insulation, solar panels. All of it and much, much more. If you own an older home, and have done any home improvement, you know it’s not just expensive. It’s usually more involved than you originally thought. More often than not, a small problem quickly turns into a big expensive one, sometimes including structural issues and environmental and health concerns such as lead paint or asbestos. If it’s cheaper to start over, that’s what you’ll have to do. Knock it down and start over. Transportation will be completely overhauled by eliminating every combustion-engine vehicle, expanding electric vehicle manufacturing and the government will create affordable public transit with high speed rails on such a scale that we no longer rely on air travel. So, hand over your keys because you won’t be needing that car anymore. If you work in any aspect of the airline industry, I’m sure you can always get a job building the high speed rail to Hawaii or Europe. You just have to hold your breath because it’s a long way down to the bottom of the ocean. Does this also mean the European Union will have to build high speed rail stations on their end? Or if you want to travel to or from the United States you can only fly as close as Ireland, France or the UK then take the rail? While we’re at it, FedEX should bring back their old slogan and update it, “When it absolutely has to be there eventually.” The cleanest fuel we have is nuclear power but the Green New Deal plans to transition off of nuclear energy in the next ten years. They’re not sure if they going to be able to decommission every nuclear plant, but they’re going to try like hell. What about nuclear fission, or creating new technologies. Forget about it, AOC believes the right way to capture carbon is to plant more trees and restore our natural ecosystems. Where the hell are they going to move Disney World to? This is a massive undertaking, and when you take into account the ten year time frame, one question of many is: who is going to do this because the workforce that would be required would be immense. They are touting this as a massive job creator. Should we all give our two weeks notice now or wait a little longer? They obviously haven’t been watching unemployment dropping to historic lows, or the creation of the 304,000 jobs in January alone. Of course every ‘Green New Deal’ job would be a union job that pays prevailing wages and hires locally. Good luck here in Rhode Island, our workforce is falling apart faster than the speech Stacey Abrams gave following the President’s State of the Union. The big question most sane people, who aren’t Communists, are asking is who is paying for this? The only estimate so far is that the cost to “repair and upgrade U.S. infrastructure alone will cost “$4.6 trillion at minimum.” Where are we getting this money? A carbon tax hasn’t been ruled out, but they say it is just a tiny piece of it. AOC even said, “even if every billionaire and company came together and were willing to pour all the resources at their disposal into this investment, the aggregate value of the investments they could make would not be sufficient.” So, even after confiscating all the wealth, we’re still short by trillions of dollars? Now what? She suggests that “The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit”. In reality, no precedent exists for the kind of financing from the Federal Reserve, so what is talking about? We’ll just print more money, because that worked so well in Venezuela. It’s ten years later and wealth has been confiscated, property has, in essence, been seized by the government, your personal liberties have been taken away and entire industries have been dismantled. Make no mistake about it, the government is in control, not the people. At least you’re earning as much as the loser who chooses not to work. Socialism would destroy the American Dream, that opportunity is afforded to those who work hard for it. The liberty to make choices in your life, to do or not do something will be gone and in its place will only be those choices given to you by the government. Of all the utopian promises that come with Socialism only one is kept, income equality. Look at Venezuela, everyone is poor. Read More 990WBOB |
