Feroce: Healthcare Continues to Crumble Under Raimondo

GOP Gubernatorial candidate Giovanni Feroce called out Gina Raimondo on Thursday, as he believes that the current governor has failed Rhode Islanders in terms of healthcare and small business development.

“Small businesses continue to close because of Governor Raimondo's mismanagement,” Feroce said. “As the UHIP debacle continues to unfold, a detriment to all Rhode Islanders, it is clear that small business owners and some of our most vulnerable residents are continually failed by the current administration,” he continued.

Feroce was made aware of an email (below) sent to the administration of the impending shutdown on July 6, 2018 of Elmwood Medical Transportation Services (EMTS) serving as an example.  The email listed the following impacts of the closure.

• Job loss for 20 members of the Hispanic community
• Diminishes our ability to support participants maintaining maximum/consistent levels of attendance at adult day and/or their keeping medical appointments
• Increases the likelihood that our participants will cost Medicaid more money due to noncompliance with their plan of care   
• Increases the probability that participants may need assisted living or nursing home care/be unable to cope with living in the community
• Potential decrease in adult day census which could translate to layoffs in the adult day centers

Feroce concluded with a pledge to turn the corner and get Rhode Island back to working for its residents. “I care so much about every citizen of our state that I find this particular failure unacceptable and will make the care of our citizens, especially adults with disabilities and the elderly, a top priority of my administration” Said Feroce.

The candidate recently toured Generations Adult Day Health Center in Smithfield, RI and captured his experience in a video named "Everyone Counts", which he made public on his social media sites and on Youtube (below).  It was viewed by a constituent who then proceeded to make him aware of this particular small business closure that would otherwise go unnoticed. ​​
