Allan Giberti On July 4th, Americans all across the country celebrated our Independence. The time when we declared that we were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain, and were now united and free. Most “Americans” that is. But on July 3rd, some of those other “Americans” were busy trying to sow further divisiveness on the day that we, as President Trump said, “… celebrate our history, our people, and the heroes who proudly defend our flag." This was President Trump’s “Salute to America,” but to the Democrats and the media it was going to be all about President Trump and the tanks. Yes, the tanks. Run my freinds and scatter like the wind, because the day that has been foretold is here. The dire warning that if the orange man is elected there will be tanks in the street. Low and behold, the end is nigh! The tanks were awesome! The Washington Post wrote, “Trump’s Fourth of July salute to himself will only hurt him,” and in the New York Times, “A New Salute” for the Fourth, Starring Trump. And the tanks. Everyone was in an uproar about the tanks, and by now we also know that Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy had also had tanks at events. As far as the military goes, you do all realize that President Trump is very restrained when it comes to using the military, don’t you? So, if he wants to celebrate and showcase the military and all the amazing hardware that goes with it, that same military he resurrected from the ravages of Barack Obama and 2020 Presidential candidate Joe Biden’s administration, I don’t see what the problem is. Still you have the 2020 Democrat Presidential candidates like Kirsten Gillibrand whining that it’s all about the President and the tanks, or Elizabeth Warren complaining that the President is just campaigning and handing out tickets to donors. Even Tulsi Gabbard tweeted, “The self-serving politician that he is, Trump has succeeded in making July 4th all about himself, and in doing so, further divided our country. This on a day when our nation’s president should be united us. #IndependenceDay.” In reality, the President didn’t make it about himself. It was an amazing, non-partisan speech that was about the military and America. The Democrats tried to make Independence Day about themselves by whining incessantly about how it’s going to be all about the President. You follow that, right? Well in doing so, it is now about them because, once again they have fallen flat on their face and yes, people noticed. Hey, they wanted the attention. To the Liz Warrens, to all who said this was going to be a Trump rally... it obviously wasn’t. He never mentioned himself once, and if you’ve ever seen a Trump rally, you would know that this was nothing like a Trump rally. As to the inane chatter about tickets being handed out, I don’t understand the surprise. When you’re President you invite your supporters to the White House and to events. This is nothing new. The Washington Post wrote, “Trump made his critics look small during his ‘Salute to America”. He honored the US Military and the United States, which is made up of Democrats and Republicans, and put politics aside. There were no politics to be found. It was all about America and it was very Presidential.” One other “American”, Governor Gina Raimondo of Rhode Island, in her own twisted version of How the Grinch Stole Independence Day took it upon herself to decide not to light up the Rhode Island State House in red, white, and blue for Independence Day for fear it would "look racist." Is she insane? It really doesn’t matter if she is or not, she’s the Chair of the Democratic Governors Association and she checked out right after the 2018 Election. Somehow, lighting up the RI State House in red, white and blue is too divisive, but lighting it up for abortion rights is what brings that kumbaya feeling to the common folk of Rhode Island. Hopefully lighting it up for Gay Pride Month but not Independence Day won’t cause any more division. Oh wait, too late. Apparently, Independence Day is so controversial that Governor Gina Raimondo also refused to march in the 2019 Bristol 4th of July Parade. It’s not like she had to worry about rain. Honestly, who would think that the U.S. Flag- the colors red, white and blue- would be offensive in the state that pretty much started the whole revolution? Only, someone whose only goal was to use Rhode Island as a springboard to plunge deeper into the DC Swamp. Eventually as the natives became increasingly more restless, Governor Gina Raimondo caved into public pressure and for a few hours, the Rhode Island State House was bathed in Red, White and Blue before it went dark, because in this tale the Grinch’s heart did not grow, only the people’s unease. Well Gina, all I can say is tanks for nothin’. Allan Giberti is the host of RI Red Radio on 990WBOB.com. You can listen to Allan live on Mondays at 7pm and Tuesdays at 8pm. All times Eastern.
