Well you’ve all heard of KFC’s Chicken and Waffles, mixing in a breakfast treat with some fried chicken. Now the colonel decided to step up his game a bit. This time around, KFC has combined its fried chicken with another sweet, breakfast treat the donut.
Yup folks, you ready that right. KFC has come out with the new donut chicken sandwich, putting chicken in between two pieces of donut. This little treat is the KFC Fried Chicken & Donut sandwich.
Ironically enough, this isn’t the first time that KFC has made this kind of sandwich before. A few years ago, they came out with a chicken sandwich where they used two chicken breasts as two slices of bread and slapped in some cheese and bacon in the middle.
So on one hand, this wasn’t new ground for KFC. On the other hand, this was really the first time they tried something like this with pastry.
Out of curiosity, I decided to try it out myself.
After purchasing the Fried Chicken & Donut sandwich, I brought it back to my abode and began to chow down on it.
When you first get it, you would assume that the sandwich would consist of the chicken breast in between two donut halves. Nope, it’s between two WHOLE glazed donuts.
I opened wide, took a bite, and then…immediately regretted it afterwards.
You would think that there would be a special sauce or at least a slice of cheese on the chicken to add some flavor to it. Nope, nothing. Just a large piece of fried chicken breast meat in between two donuts. If there was any sort of ‘sauce’ to add flavor, it was just some extra sugary glaze from the donuts that they drizzled on.
But the biggest crime of it all was the taste or lack thereof. When you get sweet and saltness, you would assume that by combing the two would balance each flavor out. Nope, not this case. Quite literally, I could taste the chicken meat and donut separately.
Poor concept, poor sandwich.
The only things that this sandwich did was raise my blood sugar levels and made me regret purchasing it.
