Christian Martinelli I’ve been watching my waistline, so I went away from taste testing all the junk food and went to an establishment that knows health food unlike any other. Burger King. Yes, Burger King has came out with a new salad, well a salad on a sandwich. The chicken caesar salad sandwich is new to their menu, and it sounds healthy enough for me. It’s called a salad, after all. This sandwich ran me $6.18, so it wasn’t exactly cheap, I was expecting a quality sandwich even by Burger King’s standards. The sandwich was comprised of two potato buns, grilled chicken, bacon, hunks of parmesan cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a liberal amount of caesar dressing. I was excited to have two meals in one and to see how what sounds like a can’t miss combo would taste. I wanted to be impressed, I really did. I love Caesar salad, and bacon and chicken, but man this was far from anything close to being worth what it cost. The bun was solid, I love carbs so I’m not hard to impress in that category. The dressing was average, clearly just some standard big factory dressing. The chicken was tough and astonishingly rubbery which made eating the sandwich difficult and unenjoyable. Bacon was a nice touch, you can add bacon to PB&J and it will be a good addition. Parmesan is a great cheese, but when you throw fat hunks of it on something it’s like chomping on cardboard, it wasn’t a great way to present the cheese. The grilled chicken was clearly the focal point of this sandwich which was unfortunate because the chicken sucked. Like it really sucked. This had so much potential to be amazing, and I’m sure if some local sandwich shop was to make it there would be flocks of people going to try it, because it’s an amazing combination of flavors. Am I shocked that Burger King’s execution was bad? No, but I’m sure as hell disappointed. I was expecting the top notch of whatever is top notch for BK, and what I got was far from impressive. This sandwich could be a winner but next time don’t paint a car tire like chicken and throw it on bread, because it doesn’t pass as a reasonable poultry. The sandwich left me wanting better, and I’m disappointed I actually spent more than $3 on it. I guess this is why they don’t call it Sandwich King.
